1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1
The Ford Mustang was in 1964 as a sporty "pony car" to attract younger buyers products introduced in Ford. After only a few Years of development saw the need, Ford Mustangs, to create the capacity to compete with GM and their release of the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. During some performance options were in the form of the work there was 289 (from the '65s on) & factory FE engines (new for 1967 with the S-code engine), the vast mantle Majority of the Ford Mustang's performance was conducted last of cars by the legendary Carroll Shelby. 1969 was the benchmark year for Ford Mustang in its distribution names and performance engines. Not less than 6 factory performance Mustang models were available (Boss 302, 429, Shelby GT350, GT500 and the Mach 1). In addition, 9 variations of V-8s in '69-'70 car available.
The new Mustang chassis, the last of the first Generation models, as for larger engines Earlier Generations, and could even fit the monstrous 429 for Ford's planned homologation of the engine for NASCAR competition. For Ford was the Mach 1 as an in-between model, a fit between the lower price and the length of GT 302s and 429s oriented Boss introduced. The Mach 1 started with the fastback "Sports Roof" body and has several visual and performance-enhancing elements such as matte black hood with hood pins, chrome gas cap and wheels, chrome exhaust tips (except 351W 2V) and optional chin and dealers deck Spoiler and air vents. Standard equipment was a 351W-2V Windsor engine with a 3-speed manual transmission and a 9 "28 spline open rear axle. A 351W 4V was released, it was a 390 4V and the huge 428 4V Cobra Jet or the "Drag Pack" option, the 428 Super Cobra Jet 4V. A 4-speed manual or three-course FMX (small block) / C6 (Big Block) Automatic transmission was optional, and has a cast iron tailshaft 428SCJ instead of aluminum to the regular C6. A "Traction Lok" rear axle was optional, the 428 CJ / SCJ a "traction lok" included with a 3.91 or 4.30 ratio, 31 spline shafts and a nodular case. In 1970, the 3.91 ratio is a "train-Lok", was while the ratio was 4:30 a Detroit Locker. Mach 1's came with upgraded suspension, to varying degrees depending on powertrain choices. Big Block cars had before Shock tower reinforcement, thicker stabilizer (no rear bar for 69), and heavier springs and dampers. 428 CJ / SCJ 4 speed cars came with staggered rear shock absorbers. Standard on Mach 1s was a fierce but cosmetic hood that had integrated turn signals mounted in the back. Another option is the functional signature "Shaker be Hood, "an air scoop mounted directly to the top of the engine used to get fresh air and so for his tendency to" Shake "on the rumble V-8 under the name. The interior came complete with teak wood grain details, full sound deadening material and high-back sport bucket seats. The name Mach 1 could not have been appropriate than in 1969, have set Performance Buyer's Digest, a new Mach 1 to its steps in Bonneville, breaking some 295 USAC speed and endurance records. Ford held the Mach 1 alive in 1970 and little changed outside of the visual. New Mach 1 specific bucket seats Magnum 500 wheels, recessed taillights on a black honeycomb rear as well as new side and rear badging and striping were the main visual differences. GT outselling the base model, Ford called off the GT at all, the Mach 1 the primary Street Performance Mustang.
Production changes
1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1
With Ford's withdrawal from the Trans-Am officially after 1970, disappeared the high-end Boss 302 and 429 and were replaced by the great road-oriented boss 351st The 1971 Mustang was larger in almost every dimension, the nickname of the "Clydesdale". In a demonstration of the resistance of long-Ford designers about what they felt was too much GM-style brought influence, acquired by the new-for-71 Mustang recently Ex-GM designer Larry Shinoda, and new President Ford (and ex-husband GM) Bunkie Knudsen, the old school Ford ensured Trim Designer to ensure that the nomenclature "FORD" stylistically not appear in any visible place either on the street or the interior of the new design. This statement should show that this is indeed "not really a "Ford" product through and through. "In the year 1971 began with Mach 1, a base engine of the 302ci Windsor-based engine, with a 2 barrel carburetor. The lineup of engines Cleveland 351 includes four engines: the 2-V 4-V, the CJ (Cobra Jet) and HO (BOSS 351). The HO was canceled in mid-1971, and shortly thereafter the low-compression 351 'Cobra Jet "became available. The lineup 429ci crowned with two options, the CJ (Cobra Jet) & SCJ (Super Cobra Jet). Mach 1s, and all other Mustang models (except The BOSS 351) were the optional engines CJ and SCJ. The SCJ was with a drag pack rear V or W-code transmission, oil cooler and another turntable. 429 Super Cobra Jet engines Used a Holley four-barrel carburetor, while the Cobra Jet engines made do with a GM-sourced Rochester Quadra-Jet four-cylinder carburetor. The 1971 Mustang Mach 1 was in the James Bond film, featured, Diamonds Are Forever (1971). In this film, the Mach 1 is the first vehicle to ever filmed, the function now-famous "two Tilt wheels' Stunt driven (by Stunt Driver flees "Bumps" Willert from Davenport, Iowa) as Bond from Las Vegas following the police. One of the stunt cars in the Bond film, featured later than Jan Michael Vincent's car was in the Charles Bronson movie "The Mechanic". Unfortunately for the Mach 1 in his only appearance in the movie, the car was destroyed by a bomb planted inside.
In 1972, the 429s were dropped from the lineup, and PS decreased across the board. The following year produced Mach 1, the least sales of the 1971-1973 generation. There are no major differences in 1971 and 72 Mustangs externally, other than another script on the master panel. The only Difference from the outside on the '72 Mach 1 was the deletion of the 71-only pop-open gas cap on the Mach 1 for the standard Mustang Twist on gas cap for '72 Mach 1s. Apparently, the pop-open gas cap were vulnerable to spilled fuel in a rear impact, so Ford discontinued their use by the Bank. The 302 was still the base engine, with 2 or 4 Barrel Barrel 351 Cleveland, the only options in the Mach 1 lineup.
1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1
In 1973, the front end has been changed to new standards Bumper been adjusted, and a new grille Mach 1 made. The Mach 1 grille in the years before, had two "sportlamps" horizontally across the grill on the left and right Side, while the functional parking lamps rode low below the front bumper at the outer ends of the valance panel. In 1973, all had models of the Mustang sportlamps changed to a vertical orientation at each end of the grill, and these lamps served double duty as well as the parking lamps. This was necessary because the new-for-73 front bumper was larger and effectively blocked the view underneath the bumper, the former location of the parking lamps. The rear bumper was also on the new bump-absorbing Extensions, which are mounted to bumper from the body about an inch caused further rise as before. The Mach 1 graphics were also to a simpler, bolder Updated draft, which was needed by the change in the front bumper. Engine options remained the same as in 1972. One of the best known and most popular features like the '71-'73-block-off plates in the balls, so it was a visual, non-functional element. However, they could be made fully operational in the models with the "Ram-Air can be ordered" option. This included vacuum controlled "flappers" on each blade, and a huge fiberglass underhood "plenum" cool that direction, outside air into the carburetor for increased performance. The Ram Air option, including two-tone paint hood either in "matt black" or "argent" (Matt silver), coordinated with the color of the Mach 1 decals and striping. In addition, all ram air equipped Mustangs of this generation came with a large chrome-plated twist-style Hood Lock Pins safe.
Because of the popularity of the Ram Air option, but because of the difficulties Where are the Ram Air option for emissions approved for reasons Ford offered an "outer decor" option in 1973 that consisted of two-tone paint treatment and the hood pins, functional but without the actual Components of the "Ram Air" system. The only engine that the functional "Ram Air" option was available was in 1973 for 351 2-V, although the 351 4-V "Cobra Jet "was optional for each model.

The 1974 Mach 1s sold the previous four years with the V6 in the light for its size 2700 pounds (1,200 kg) Next II Year, the 302 brought back into the Mustang, which is a much needed increase in performance. At 140 hp (100 kW) and 240 lbfft (325 Nm) torque, the MII has a 4-speed manual transmission available. It was the upper end of performance in the Mustang IIS. With 1976 came the introduction of an additional "performance" model, the Cobra II in 1977 changed little But the grille of the Mustang and 1977 proved to be the lowest selling price of the Mach 1 still years, sold only 6719 cars. It is also worth noting that four of the five years the Mustang II to the top-ten list of most-sold Mustangs ever. Nothing changed for 1978 other than Ford adding yet another performance model lineup, the King Cobra. This was the last year for the Mustang II, and their performance models. The Mach 1 name has been set.

During 1990s was the outstanding performance of the SVT Mustang Cobra. Following the departure of the Fox-chassis in 1993 and the arrival of the SN-95 in 1994, Ford also tried to remove the 302nd (Marketed now 5.0 liters, yet 302 CID is closer to 4.9 L) Building on its newly developed architecture OHC engines as the modular known, SVT Cobra and 1996 and created several variations of the 32-valve, all aluminum 4.6 liter (281 CID) V-8. Below the SVT in performance was only the GT back in 1982 with the 302 HO "5.0", later turned to the 16alve SOHC V-8 in 1996. While still well behind GM in the acceleration of competition (the base Camaro Z-28 engine from 1993 and up to 275 hp (205 kW) and increased to 305 hp (227 kW) in 1998), the sales on the new SN-95-style cars has increased, so that by the year 2002, Mustang sales of the top of the combined sales of the Firebird and Camaro. With GM's withdrawal from the "Pony Car Wars" in 2002, Ford had created a free hand to the whole market but what was probably the fastest Mustang has up to this point with the 2003-2004 SVT Cobra. However, concerns about a price difference between the GT and Cobra, as well as interest for the purpose of sales by before the release the all new 2005 Mustang S197 prompted the creation of two unique mid-range performance models: the 2001 Bullitt GT and 2:01 in 2003 and 2004, both credited to the Mach 1 team Mustang by Scott Hoag led.
After the sensation through the retro 2001 "woke Bullitt" (a lightly modified 2001 GT, for the famous car chase named Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the movie "Bullitt") Ford saw the value of the cultural heritage of the Mustang name and, as a follow-up attempts to revive the Mach 1 name. While the Bullitt is similar in the use of the Cobra 13 in (330 mm) Brembo front disc brakes, unique Tokico gas shocks and struts and lower and stiffer springs, The Mach 1 was a big performance gain based on GT and even the 265 hp (198 kW) Bullitt in the form of a unique variant of the 4.6-liter DOHC V8 32alve Modular. Often by Mach 1 owners as "R" DOHC code is known, (has the unique VIN R engine code) This all-aluminum engine on the same high flow SVT Cobra heads as 20032004, 20032004 Mercury Marauder, Lincoln Aviator 20032005, 20032009 and the Australian boss 5,4 l V8 (see Ford Australia Boss of 5.4 l), the engine has also Intake camshaft of Lincoln's 5.4-liter "InTech sourced" V8 offers more mid-range torque. The Mach 1 engine had a 10.1:1 compression ratio, in contrast was to the years 1999 and 2001 Cobra's 9.85:1, and the Mach 1 with an aluminum smelter Windsor or WAP block from the unique Teksid aluminum blocks in the 19,961,999 Cobras used. The Mach 1 also has a relatively high redline of 6,800 rpm (5-speed cars) and at 7050 rpm or 5800 rpm (4-speed automatic) cut fuel item. While on paper the 305 hp (228 kW) reviews seems to be a loss if the 1999 and 2001 SVT Cobra with 320 hp (239 kW), produced in practice, the Mach 1 engine similar peak horsepower and produces significantly more torque compared.
Other differences, the use of Ford 8.8-inch (220 mm) in the solid rear axle with 3.55 final drive ratio (contrast independent rear suspension to SVT) and the availability of a 4-speed automatic in addition to the sources Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. Factory steel "box" cross-section Subframe connectors were also added to increase strength for both the chassis and handling is concerned with the tremendous torque over the stock GT. Style example, the Mach 1 was very much moved by other Mustangs as much from the 1970 Mach 1 In addition to the matt black bonnet and rear spoiler stripes, flat black chin spoiler, Sill Mach 1 and Mach 1 stripe badging on the back, there was also faux Magnum 500 17x8 polished alloy wheels. A retro theme hotel interior has been well received with dark gray Leather seats with 70's style "comfort weave" texture, a 1970s-style gauge cluster and a machined aluminum shift ball reinforced. An optional interior 18G Upgrade Package include stainless steel pedals, a four-way head restraint, aluminum shift boot trim ring and manufacture door lock posts and aluminum-look panels on the dashboard. The most striking difference was visually from other Mustangs, the bulging hood with cut-out and the return of a semi-legitimate "Shaker Hood." While physically identical placement and function (the ball is said to the same tools as the 1970 Mach 1) There is only one part of the air to the engine-routing, built around the air box in front of the MAF be. It does work well as a cold air "snorkel" and a partial Ram Air at speed.
In 2004, only minor cosmetic changes to the Mach 1 2004 Mach 1s can be identified by mere finished aluminum valve cover when the cover ready for 2003 black contrast. Outside, 2004 Mach 1's wear 40th Anniversary of tags at the door during the year 2003, the traditional Mustang Running Pony and Tri-Color bar. The lone interior change was the deletion of the overhead "Cargo Net "on roof mounted. Despite rumors that the pre-power and torque ratings in 2004 were not increased. Power was 305 hp (227 kW) and 320 lbft (434 Nm).
Unlike many limited edition cars, 2003 Mach 1 owners had a variety of colors stand out from which to choose. Originally, the car offered in Black, Dark Shadow Grey Metallic, Torch Red, Yellow zinc, Oxford White, and the Mach 1 only Azure. In 2004 Zinc Yellow was covered as an option left and through a more Yellow Screaming Yellow as a living, and a completely new color called Orange competition.
Such improvements in performance and a relatively light curb weight of 3380 pounds (1533 kg), 2003 Mustang Mach 1 posted magazine test, significant numbers, which were given their $ 29,305 price tag. Tests of Motor Trend magazine found figures of 13.88 seconds on 101.9 hours miles (164.0 kmh) for the automatic-equipped Mach 1 2003 mph with a 5.6 seconds 0-60, to 5-Gang's blistering 13.2 seconds to 106.7 miles an hour (171.7 km / h) 4.7 seconds 0-60 mph time. All this while maintaining a reasonable 63.5 hours miles (102.2 km / h) on a 600-foot (180 m) and 0.85 g's Slalom on the circular drive, although the higher CG of the bigger DOHC engine creates a tendency equipped to understeer more than the IRS SVT and CG lower and lower curb weight Bullitt GTS with the same basic suspension and brakes.
Limited in production, the 2003 Mach 1s and ended in 2004 with the New Edge platform body, framed the loss of Fox Unibody, and the introduction of the first new frame design since 1979 the S-197 with 9652's 2003's 7182 and 2004 built, in contrast to the Mach 1 originally as a one-year Model with the advertised start production set at 6,500 cars. Ford plans to return for a mid-range-call model between the Mustang GT and Shelby GT500 (Shelby has been a GT-H for Hertz rental counter as the legendary GT-350 set, as well as a buyable version), but it is unlikely that any other than Mach 1 rumors that either the head or the Bullitt name to be used again.
