Marine Boat Propeller

Choosing the right boat propeller
Choosing the right propeller
For some, choosing the right boat propeller can be like a job for a Marine Strategy-Service-Center seem. All that can with the back of the boat has to do a scary thing. Despite popular belief, choosing the right screw for a particular Boat and motor is actually doing a fairly simple thing, if you understand what a propeller really is.
First, think of as a propeller gearbox, whether on a his car or even a bicycle. The lower the gear, faster hole shot, more power, but revolutions are much faster at a point one can only again, that gear so fast until you over rev the engine (or legs). Now think of your car stuck in fifth only or 6 Course, very slowly from the hole, little torque, but eventually it will catch up with itself, so you can cruise to a good speed.
The same applies to the basic concept of propeller, except as you are obliged to prop only? Gang ". So, what to do now? Find the prop size that will give best overall performance. Sound difficult? It does not really.
Your Engine has a recommended wide open throttle rpm range. Let an example of an18 'boat with a 125 hp motor with a speed range of 4500-5500. In most cases the purchase of a boat with a kind of prop it up. Let's say this motor has a 21 pitch prop on it and at wide open throttle under normal boat load, the motor turns 4900 rpm. Now, it is in the range so that it is the right support, is right? Well yes and no. For the health and longevity of the engine, it's okay, but for the overall performance, you want to run a propeller near the top of the range. Well, as you get to change the size?
Remember this rule of thumb is to change: For every 2 "of propeller pitch, rpm's is about 400 rpm. As you increase the drop-pitch, RPM, and how to go up in to reduce pitch, rpm's. So if we want to raise our rpm's we should choose a lower pitch prop. According to the rule, down to a 19-pitch should raise our rpm's to about 5300th That would help, shot the hole and for us to gain some more speed.
As the rule of thumb to follow You remember that sometimes rules are meant to be broken. This is not an iron clad rule, sometimes two different "to the pitch will only rpm's change of 200 Switching brands or manufacturers prop, it can sometimes throw off the rule too.
to understand at this point the most important thing is that less Pitch means more speed, more pitch means less speed. to provide for your boat to maximum, you need at the upper end of the engine speed range is recommended . Run That's it. If you're here and still want more speed, handling, elevator, etc, that's when choosing the right propeller brand comes into play.
Here is a simple adjustment you can make to improve it's performance under varying boatloads: If you are with another person on board, use this cargo normally as your measurement when determining your run open throttle rpm's. But if you sometimes try to load the boat with 2-5 people or more, attracts a Hose water skier or get another prop 2 "of pitch lower than your normal prop. It is to compensate for added weight and drag and are a big improvement in performance under these circumstances. But remember, keep an eye on you rpm's when running a lower pitch for these circumstances.
Most props have the size marked somewhere on the support, either on the run, on the leaves or in the front or back of the propeller. Use the pitch that you are currently in operation, as a starting point. If it already stated that it properly pitch your pitch.
